Nature Stay: Sr. 4, Tervan-Medhe village, Tillari Road, Dodamarg, District Sindhudurg, Maharashtra.

The forest of Tillari-Dodamarg in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra is crucial in many ways. It is a connecting link between the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra with rest of the ghats. This is the northern distribution limit for many endemic species of the Western Ghats. This landscape is also and important wildlife corridor for many species including tigers. Owing to its affinities with the central Western Ghats, the diversity of flora and fauna in this region is rich in these forests. The forest in this landscape is under tremendous anthropogenic pressure and is heavily fragmented. Most of the forest belongs to the community and already heavily altered for monoculture plantation like rubber and pineapple. These recent developments created negative impacts on many ecosystem services for the local biodiversity and human communities as well. But still there are a few pristine forest patches including the recently declared Tillari Conservation Reserve and a few private forests, which are the safe abodes for the biodiversity. Although rich in biodiversity, studies on documenting this diversity are wanting except a few intensive studies on mammals and rest of the biodiversity is poorly documented. The dedicated and long-term conservation efforts are needed to protect such human dominated landscapes ensuring the corridor connectivity. For this, proper understanding of biodiversity and active involvement of local communities will play a vital role. With this rationale, we wish to conduct a long-term biodiversity inventory study in a pristine patch of private forest of Wild One, Wildlife Field Station and Nature’s Stay near Dodamarg in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra.
